What is a Wesleyan?
We are contractors, nurses, business owners, secretaries, and retirees. We are moms, dads, children, and spouses. We are ordinary people just like you. Some of us have been Christians now for many years. Others are still brand new at all this Bible "stuff".
The cool thing is in knowing that we find common ground as a church. We are a family of mostly normal people who are being transformed into new creations. Some of us are still a little rough around the edges, but we are a work in progress.
History of the Wesleyan Church
The Wesleyan Church is a 5,000-congregation family impacting the
world for Christ. Head quartered In Indianapolis, Indiana; our
congregations are located in the U.S., Canada, and dozens of nations,
with workers and/or churches in a total of 65 countries.
Our historical roots date back to John Wesley, an English evangelist
and minister, the founder of the Methodist Church in the 1700's.
Out of this church the Wesleyan Church began as the Wesleyan Methodist
church in 1843. The issues of slavery and church government were
motivating factors in starting this new organization of churches.
In the one and a half centuries since then, the Wesleyan church
has focused on the theme of holiness. Simply put, holiness stresses
that God can impact and change every aspect of a person's life,
enabling them to become living examples of God's love and work
in this world. We are a work in progress and God is the architect
of that work.
As you consider Chi United, it is important to identify key beliefs
